Lamar Wesley Brown passed away quietly at his home on Monday, January 1, 2018. Lamar was born in 1940 in East Point, Georgia to the late Errol Arthur and Helen Ruth Fretwell Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Luther Brown. He was the second oldest of six children and graduated from Russell High School in 1958.

Patsy Ruth DeLye, 74, of East Point, GA passed away on Monday, June 22, 2015. She was born on July 8, 1940 to the late Flora Bess Duncan Rodgers and Manson Lacy Rodgers in Atlanta, GA. She was a graduate of Russell High School. She worked in Civil Service for 26 years in Finance and Accounting and also doing the Puerto Rican Army National Guard payroll. She was a lifelong resident of East Point and member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. DeLye, on July 11, 2004; one brother; and one sister. Patsy leaves behind a son, John S. DeLye II; and a daughter, Keturah DeLye North, both of Hampton, GA. She also leaves behind her loyal fur baby, "Cody" and feline companion, "Maggie Moo". A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 1, 2015, in the chapel at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, GA with Rev. Darwin Caldwell officiating. James William “Buddy” Barefield, age 75, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 27, 2015 following a short illness due to cardiac difficulties. He was born on March 15, 1940 and was a native of Atlanta, GA, but resided in Tennessee for the majority of his life. Most recently he was a resident of both Jonesborough, TN and Sebring, FL. He was the son of the late Lamont Wade and Miriam Boyd Wade. He is survived by his wife of over 54 years, Charlotte Wilson Barefield; three sisters: Annette George, Faye Rodriguez, and Lynn Augustine; children: James David and spouse, Mary; Connie Bailey; Charla Bacon and spouse, Jerry; Beth Davis and spouse, John; David W.; and Lindsay Maden and spouse, Noah; and grandchildren Tyler, Jordan and Joshua Bacon, Sydney, Jacob, and Brandon Davis, Kayla Bailey, and Emma, Lola, and Hank Maden. Buddy proudly served his country in the United States Army 256 Transportation Corp after high school. He was a graduate of Steed College and the University of Wisconsin and was employed by First Tennessee Bank where he retired after 42 years. He loved the Lord and was an active member of the Central Church of Christ in Johnson City, TN and Avon Park Church of Christ in Avon Park, FL. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend. He enjoyed camping in his motorhome, painting ceramics, and spending time with his dogs Toby and Tiny. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00pm Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home with Timothy Hall and Don Smith officiating. She was the daughter of the late Henry Porter Stallings Sr. and the late Marie (Batson) Stallings. Besides her parents Mrs. Jones is preceded in death by one son Gary Lee Jones and one grandson Yugi Jamie Jones. Survivors include her husband Euwell Lee Jones Jr. of Draketown; One son, Peter Michael Jones of Austin, Texas; Two daughters, Jennifer Jones of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Sarah Elizabeth Jones of Draketown; One brother and sister-in-law, Henry Porter and Shirley Stallings of Hiwassee, Georgia; One Sister, Melanie Anne Stallings of Cloudland, Georgia; Three grandsons, Oliver and Noah Jones of Covington, Louisiana and Ryota Matthew Jones of Japan; Two nieces and one nephew-in-law, Robyn and Garrison Elder of Signal Mountain, Tennessee and Michelle Stallings Honnick of Hiwassee, Georgia; One Nephew, Scot Henderson of Chattanooga, Tennessee; One great-niece, Georgia Grace Elder of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; One great-nephew, Stallings Elder of Signal Mountain, Tennessee; and a number of other relatives. Mrs. Jones and her husband both served as Missionaries in Hiroshima, Japan for 26 years during which time they opened 3 churches. Mrs. Jones enjoyed singing opera and could sing in both the Italian and Spanish languages and could speak fluently in the French and Japanese languages as well. Besides singing Mrs. Jones could also play the piano, the organ, the autoharp and the Japanese harp “Koto” and was featured on national television playing the Japanese harp during the Asian Games in Japan. She enjoyed painting, cross stitching, and loved reading and wrote many stories and articles, some published. She never raised her voice, was kind to all, and was truly a lady in every sense of the word. Mrs. Jones was also a member of Miller Academy Christian Church in Bremen. Visitation will be held at Liberty Christian Church on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 12 noon until the funeral hour. Funeral services for Mrs. Jones will be conducted on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 2pm from Liberty Christian Church with Brother Dennis Harris officiating. Major Bobby Doyle Reynolds, USAF (Ret.), 71, passed away Tuesday, December 13th, 2011 at home in Abilene, Texas. Bobby was a 22-year veteran of the USAF and highly decorated Vietnam Veteran with over 650 combat flight hours. Medals earned include an Air Force Commendation Medal, Small Arms Marksmanship, ADF Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, AF Longevity Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Gallantry Cross with Palm, RVN Campaign Medal, AF Presidential Unit Citation and AF Outstanding Unit Award. Bobby served and loved his country in ways only other military members will understand. Bobby was born on July 11, 1940, the son of the late Doyle and Margie Reynolds of Atlanta Georgia. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Reynolds of Abilene; daughters, Sherry Reynolds and Christy Reynolds Tomlin, both of Abilene; son, Thomas D. Reynolds of Austin, Texas; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include a sister, Sandra and husband Allen Peek of Fayetteville, Georgia, and brother, David Reynolds of Lawrenceville, Georgia. Bobby was a kind, giving man who would give the shirt off of his back to help anyone. Although not perfect, as none of us are, he lived life as best he knew how, always taking care of his family. He had a fondness for animals and has kept and cared for many. He believed in the power of the Cross and that Jesus made the only way for us in this life and the next. Collette Fuller Dodd, beloved mother, grandmother, soul mate and friend, passed from this life on April 18, 2011. She was born 71 years ago in Atlanta, Georgia to Joseph Duke Fuller and Ethel Claudine Carter on March 22, 1940. Collette raised her two daughters in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Kimberly Dodd, her husband John Sarchio, and their children Jenna Fuller Sarchio and Tucker Dodd Sarchio, now reside in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Jenny Dodd Heinrich, her husband Tas Heinrich, and their children Georgia Collette Hamer, Emily Carolyn Heinrich and Brent Heinrich make their home in the San Francisco Bay area. In her middle life, Collette moved to Spokane, Washington to be close to her west coast family and developed many close and loving relationships. She returned to Florida to share her life with Neil Gray and her east coast family and friends. Collette was at home on both coasts, near the people and natural world she loved. Her accepting presence, her gentle spirit and creative force will continue to bless all who knew and loved her. Patricia Vansant Bonner Smith, age 69, died July 2, 2009 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. For the past year she was a resident of Governor's Glen, an assisted living community, in Forest Park, GA. She was a native of East Point, GA and a graduate from the Russell High School class of 1958. Shortly after her graduation she was married to Jimmy Bonner who was playing football for Auburn University. They lived at Auburn until Jimmy's graduation and then moved to Carrollton, GA where Jimmy was the assistant football coach and head track coach at Carrollton High School. Patricia was employed with the Carroll County Extension Department of the University of Georgia where she enjoyed a lengthy tenure until her retirement in 2004. Jimmy died in 1977 at age 38 after a lengthy and debilitating illness from a rare spinal disease. Patricia's devoted care of Jimmy through this tragic illness was exemplary and inspiring. Patricia later married Charles Smith, a native of Carrollton. They built a home together on acreage which enabled them to raise cattle as an avocation. Charles died in 2003 after a lengthy illness from lung cancer. She was again called on to provide needed care for her husband and she did so without complaint and with the grace of an angel. Patricia was known for her beauty, her energy, and devotion to her church, Carrollton First Baptist, and to its Music Ministry where she served as a faithful member and soloist. She was especially known for her beautiful voice that inspired all who heard her sing. She also gave much time as a volunteer at the Tanner Memorial Hospital. In addition to Jimmy and Charles Patricia was predeceased by her parents, Ishmael and Sara Vansant and her grandparents, Harvey and Jessie Vansant, Elijah and Pearl Hornsby. Patricia is survived by her son, Van Bonner, and his wife, Christina, of Warner Robins, GA; grandsons, Ben and Brock Bonner of Carrollton, GA; brothers and sister-in-laws, Bob and Anne Vansant of Tucker, GA, Harold and Barbara Vansant of Tyrone, GA; sisters and brother-in-laws, Carole and Larry Jones of Pensacola, FL, Robin and Mike Cook of Peachtree City, GA; two aunts, Louise Clonts of East Point, GA and Evelyn Grice of Vero Beach, FL and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held at Carrollton First Baptist Church July 5th at 3:00 PM. Family visitation will precede the service at the church at 2:00 PM. Sylvia Lee Stidham Trost, 68, of 2016 S. Mebane St. passed from this life at 6:30 PM on October 16, 2007 after an 18 month illness and 2 months critical. She was with her husband and family when she passed away. She was the wife of Robert E. Trost for 39 years and the daughter of the late William Martin and Sarah Frances Stewart Stidham. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Survivors include her husband of the home, a daughter Debbie Pinson of Burlington, sons; Chuck Scoggins and his wife Michelle of Dacula, GA, Bob Trost and his wife Kathy of Monroe, GA, grandchildren; Brittany Pinson, Leland Scoggins, Hogan Scoggins, Christopher Trost; sisters; Catherine Crawford, Geraldine Kelly and her husband George, Barbara Greene, Virginia DeBard, Betty Starr all of the metro Atlanta area, and a brother William Stidham of Nashville, TN. She was preceded in death by a son Lee Stewart Scoggins, her parents and sisters; Christine Defrice and Irene Thomas. William L. "Bill" Brown
Mr. William L. Brown, age 66, of Tyrone, Georgia, died at home, surrounded by his family, on Friday, February 23, 2007. After graduating from Russell High School in East Point and North Georgia College, Mr. Brown served in the United States Army. He later was employed by International Harvester and Mack Trucks before becoming owner and President of Standard Transfer Company, Inc. Mr. Brown served in leadership roles for many service organizations and schools including The Arlington Schools, Inc. and The Alumni Council of North Georgia College. Mr. Brown was also an active member of First Christian Church of Tyrone. Mr. Brown piloted airplanes both privately and professionally, retiring from the Flight Department of Fuqua Capital Corporation. A devoted husband and father, Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 42 years, Brenda Norwood Brown; and his three children, Leigh Brown Berry of Charlotte, North Carolina; Jeffrey A. Brown and his wife, Lisa, of Columbus, Georgia; and Mollie Brown Leigh and her husband, Jamison, of Charleston, South Carolina. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jacqueline, Megan, and Lauren Berry; Lindsey and Elizabeth Brown; and J. H. and Mary Lillian Leigh; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Brown. Belton Hollums of Peachtree City, Georgia, formerly a long term resident of East Point, Georgia, passed away at the age of 66, on June 6, 2006 after a long fight with cancer. Mr. Hollums is best remembered for his civic contribution to the Southside of Atlanta. He was President of Cawthon-Hollums Properties, and was a successful real estate developer, builder, and broker. Mr. Hollums was a graduate of the Russell High School class of 1958, and he was also Director of the Georgia Tribe of the Eastern Cherokee. His interests included genealogy, Civil War History, and he was also a local historian. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, and will be missed by his family, friends, and employees. He is survived by his devoted, loving wife, Pamela Hollums, his sister and brother-in-law, Lynda Hollums Peterson and Edward Peterson, his children Mark Hollums and Mark's wife Page, Kirk Hollums and Kirk's wife Michelle, Matt Hollums, and April Baum and her husband Matt. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Kirk Hollums, Jr., Ryan Hollums, Alex Hollums, Kristen Hollums, Ethan Baum and Summer Grace Baum. Robert (Robby) A. Robinson, 66, of Tyrone passed away Monday, March 6, 2006 at his home after battling cancer. Robby had a strong work ethic and was admired by many. While still in college, Robby began work at Fulton National Bank and made banking his career for 44 years. His last position was a President and Chairman of the Board for United Community Bank in Fairburn. Robby had an intense love for the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and golfing with family and friends. Robby and his wife had two children together and lived in several states throughout the southeast. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marilyn Robinson of Tyrone; daughters and sons-in-law, Dina Robinson and Rick Dropp of Dallas; Stacy Robinson and Larry Walker of Rome; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Walter and Gwen Robinson of Molena; Lane and Melody Robinson of Rome; mother, Hazel S. Thad L. Reid
Funeral for Thad L. Reid, 33, of 10621 Eagle Drive, Jonesboro, was held Thursday at Hemperly's Chapel. The Rev. L. Floyd Carmack officiated, with burial in Westview Cemetery. Reid, a disabled Coast Guard and Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, died Monday, apparently of a heart condition. He was instrumental in starting a program in soccer at St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church School in Hapeville. At the time of his death, he was organizing a soccer team of 15 - 19 year old youths to compete in this years US Gold Cup playoffs. He was also a member of American Legion Post 51. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Margaret Norton Reid, daughters, Melinda Reid, and Cheryl Ann Reid, both of Jonesboro, sons Scott Reid and Grant Reid, both of Jonesboro, mother, Mrs. mary Ellen Reid of East Point, sister, Mrs. Martin Coocha of East Point.

Funeral services for Airman 2nd Class James Earl Maxwell of 1337 Cleveland Avenue, East Point, were held Tuesday, May 26, at the Chapel of Howard L. Carmichael and Sons. The Rev. W. M. Bishop officiated. Airman Maxwell, 24 years old, was killed in a May 11th plane crash in the Phillipine Islands. He was a native of this area where he spent most of his life. Prior to enlistment in 1961, he was graduated from Russell High School and attended West Georgia College and the University of Alabama. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James H. Maxwell, brother, Don Maxwell, all of East Point. Burial was in Sherwood Memorial Cemetery.
